Changes to expect from The Big Bang Theory

It was no surprise when, during the recent upfronts, CBS renewed long-running comedy The Big Bang Theory for an eighth series this Autumn.

Then came the news that the key cast have been a dispute over their salaries and have yet to reach an agreement for the new season. But what can we actually expect from the eighth series when it does eventually return to TV? You might be right to assume that nothing will really change, but in an article for The Hollywood Reporter it would seem that some changes are afoot.

Kaley Cuoco's Penny is set to go in a new direction following a decision to leave her career in acting behind her. "Penny has an interesting arc this year where she puts acting down," said co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. "She gets a shot to be a pharmaceutical rep at Bernadette's [Melissa Rauch] company." Last series saw Leonard and Penny finally get engaged and Sheldon leave the security of the apartment to find somewhere else to live.

"These characters, as they grow, they deal with more things. Sheldon [Jim Parsons] has grown unbelievably over seven years from where we began. We could never have imagined the stories we've been doing in the past year or so six years ago," he said.

The Big Bang Theory returns in September in the US with a date yet to be confirmed by E4.
