The CustardTv at Edinburgh: Charlotte Moore Chat

Day Two of The Custard's coverage of The Guardian Edinburgh Television Festival kicks off with coverage of the conversation with BBC One controller Charlotte Moore.

During the chat Charlotte revealed the following

. She was really committed to innovative drama including the recently announced The Living and The Dead; a supernatural period drama from Life on Mars' Ashley Pharoah.
. She was passionate about commissioning new fact-based drama starting win A Song for Jenny starring Emily Watson as Julie Nicholson whose daughter was killed in the 7/7 bombings.
. She promoted 24 Hours in the Past, a new living history show which focuses on celebrities going back to the Victorian era and taking on some of that time period's lowliest jobs.
. BBC One will also be making a documentary on The Metropolitan Police which benefits from unprecedented access to the department.
. She previewed David Attenborough's new series LIfe Stories.
. Other upcoming factual commissions include a series about living with cancer.
. In terms of comedy, Charlotte was excited about Mountain Goats; a Scottish sitcom based on the Comedy Playhouse pilot Miller's Mountain.
. She was cagey when asked about Miranda Hart hosting a new version of The Generation Game and said that the two parties were still in talks.
. Charlotte felt committed to the evolution of long-running programmes but at the same time knowing when they'd come to a natural conclusion such as Waterloo Road.
. She used Happy Valley as an example of a programme that had taken creative risks.
. She also defended the decision to commission a second series saying that Sally Wainwright wanted to further explore the complex backstory of the character of Catherine.
. She was passionate about continuing to promote diversity on the channel and finding more personalities from differing ethnic backgrounds.
. Finally she promised to continue to follow her gut like she did when she commissioned Boomers on her fifth day on the job.
