Below par start for Cowell's Food Glorious Food

Overnight ratings have revealed that ITV's new cookery competition Food Glorious Food was the lowest-rating launch ever.

The series, fronted by Carol Vorderman aims to find one original British recipe to sell in Marks & Spencer. The opening episode entertained fewer than 3 million viewers and was completely trounced by BBC1's Holiday Hit Squad.

Being the lowest-rating launch ever is quite something when you consider the tripe ITV has been guilty of dishing up in recent years. Food Glorious Food interested fewer people than Celebrity Wrestling and Grease is the Word. There's worse news for the channel though as Food Glorious Food is set to air for 9 weeks.

Food Glorious Food continues Wednesday at 8.00pm on ITV.
