ITV announces Edge of Heaven

ITV has commissioned Hartswood Films to make a 6 x 60 minutes comedy drama series Edge of Heaven, which charts life at Margate’s finest (and indeed only) 1980s inspired B&B.

Written by Robert Evans (Stella, Sadie J), based on an idea he created with Paul McKenzie, the series follows the organised chaos of the Taylor-Chatterjee family.

Wham! loving Judy runs the Edge Of Heaven guesthouse which is also home to her black pudding breakfast enthusiast husband Tandeep and her two grown up kids – loser in love Alfie and his de-mobbed soldier sister, Ann-Marie.

Edge of Heaven stars Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners) as Alfie, a man with his life and future in Margate all planned out ahead of him, until his fiancée Carly (Justine Michelle CainWPC56, Some Girls) leaves him at the altar.

Camille Coduri (Him and Her) plays Alfie’s Mum Judy, the feisty landlady of the Edge of Heaven B&B and Nitin Kundra (Celebrity Juice) is Alfie’s amiable step dad who is also head cook at the B&B. Laura Checkley (Checkley and Bush) plays his ex Army sister Ann-Marie. Louisa Lytton (EastEnders, The Bill) plays Michelle, Carly’s best mate who’s always had a soft spot for Alfie.

Marcia Warren (Vicious,) plays Nanny Mo, Alfie’s smart as a tack grandmother who lives with Adrian Scarborough (Gavin and Stacey) and Robert Evans (Stella) playing Alfie’s uncles.

Edge of Heaven was commissioned by Elaine Bedell, ITV’s Director of Comedy and Entertainment and Myfanwy Moore, Commissioning Editor, Comedy.

Myfanwy Moore said: "We're delighted to be able to book into the Edge of Heaven B&B alongside such a great ensemble cast of larger than life characters. We hope their lives and loves will win them a place in our viewers’ hearts.”

Edge of Heaven is a Hartswood Films production for ITV, produced by Elaine Cameron (Sherlock, Jekyll) and Paul McKenzie (Sadie J, Dani’s House). Beryl Vertue (Sherlock, Men Behaving Badly) is Executive Producer.

Beryl Vertue, executive producer Hartswood Films said: “It is very good news that ITV have started to commission scripted comedy again, and we’ll try and give them a big hit with Edge of Heaven. This is Robert Evans’ first original comedy series, and his hilarious scripts have attracted a great cast”.

Filming begins in August.
