ITV Confirm third series of Endeavour

We've waited for full confirmation but now ITV have confirmed that Endeavour will return for four new episodes in 2015.

The new series will be set in 1967, picking up from the dramatic second series finale that saw Endeavour Morse placed in police custody, framed for a murder he didn’t commit, and DI Fred Thursday's life hanging in the balance after being shot in the chest.

Whether Thursday will survive - and what impact the fall-out from this will have upon Morse and his colleagues -  remains to be seen. All the pieces are up in the air. Where they will land is anybody’s guess…

The only certainty is that Shaun Evans (The Last Weekend; Silk) will return to film the new series in Oxford,

The second series returned in March 2014 with a peak audience of 7.0m and a 27% share, making it one of the best performing returning drama series on ITV so far this year.

“I'm really excited to be revisiting the '60's as young Morse,” said star Shaun Evans. “The audience reaction to Endeavour has been fantastic and this series promises to be the best we've made so far. It'll be well worth the wait!”

Director of Drama Commissioning Steve November said: "We are delighted be working with Mammoth Screen on a third series of Endeavour. Russell Lewis has created four more fantastic stories and we're looking forward to seeing Shaun Evans reprise his role as young Morse."

Endeavour returns in 2015 on ITV.
