NEWS: EastEnders welcome back old favourite and announces new characters

New EastEnders producer Kate Oates has teased her plans for the soap in 2019.

Trouble is on its way back to Walford next year when Lola Pearce returns to Albert Square.
Feisty and street-wise, Lola certainly has the Mitchell spirit and was caught up in numerous dramas the last time she was in Walford. Whether it was getting sacked from every job she had or having a baby with Ben Mitchell, there was never a dull moment when Lola was around. After falling for loveable Jay Brown, the pair planned a new life in Newcastle but Jay was left broken hearted when Lola dumped him before he even had the chance to leave the Square.

Now back and more confident that ever, Lola is a far cry from the teenager who gave birth in McKlunky’s. Mature and confident, Lola is fiercely protective over her daughter Lexi, and isn’t bothered about what anyone thinks of her. But what brings Lola back to Walford, and how will everyone react?

Speaking about her return to Albert Square, Danielle Harold commented: “I’m so excited to be returning to EastEnders next year. EastEnders was my first acting job and I have so many happy memories from my time there. I can’t believe it’s been over three years since I left and I can’t wait to get back and find out what Lola has been up to”

ate Oates (Senior Executive Producer, EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City) added: “As a viewer I always admired Lola’s fiesty, fiery spirit and viewers will have a lot to look forward to with her return. How will Jay respond seeing the love of his life walk back into Walford after all these years and for Billy to have his best girl back in town, I can’t wait.”

Lola will return in the New Year with Lexi.

The news comes as it was also confirmed that the Ahmed sisters would also be making their way to Albert Square in the New Year.

Iqra and Habiba Ahmed are the granddaughters of Mariam and Arshad. Born and bred in the East End, the girls are a force to be reckoned with and they stop at nothing to get what they want.

Defiant, smart and confident the sisters quickly make an impact on Walford. Eldest of the two, Iqra is no-nonsense, bold and intelligent and she arrives in Walford with a clear goal but she soon learns that life in the Square is never simple, especially when her sister is involved. Full of heart, the bubbly Habiba is full of the best intentions but trouble never seems to be too far behind but luckily for Habiba, neither is her sister who often has to clear up her sister’s mess.

As soon as they arrive in Walford they are quick to spin their Uncle Masood a lie about why they’re there but as the girls settle into life at number 41 it soon becomes clear their arrival may not be all as it seems…

In her first television role Priya Davdra will be playing Iqra. On joining EastEnders Priya said: “EastEnders was such a big part of my life growing up and I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the show. Walking on to the set for the first time was such an amazing experience. I can’t wait for viewers to meet the sisters and see how much drama they’re going to cause.”

Rukku Nahar is not a newcomer to soapland as she has previously starred in Hollyoaks as well as Casualty and CBBC’s Wolf Blood. On playing Habiba, Rukku said: “I’m so excited to have joined EastEnders, it’s a show I’ve grown up watching and stepping onto Albert Square is just unreal! Habiba is great fun to play and I’m so happy to be working alongside Priya. Can’t wait for you all to see what we get up to on the Square.”

The news doesn't stop there, with confirmation that The Taylor Family will see eldest daughter Chantelle join the soap in 2019 with casting to be announced.

EastEnders Continues Tomorrow night at 7.30pm on BBC One.
