NEWS: Line of Duty breaks overnight Records

Broadcast is reporting last night's opening episode of Line Of Duty achieved the highest overnight rating since records began. The sixth series began its run with 9.6million viewers making it the most-watched drama across all channels since September 2018’s Bodyguard finale (10.5m / 48%) – also from writer Jed Mercurio. Further proof, if it were needed, that audiences will flock to a show on terrestrial on the night it is broadcast if they love the show.

The episode, which was slower paced than previous openers, introduced viewers to Joanne Davidson (Kelly MacDonald) and asked whether this copper was who she really seemed. As it Line Of Duty's way, the opener did confuse some viewers who were unsure of a key acronym. World Productions’ thriller was the most-watched Line of Duty episode of all time, beating the conclusion of last run’s 9.1m (44.1%). That series opened with 7.8m (38%). Source Broadcast

The series, which was heavily promoted by the BBC, has been given a seventh episode for the first time in its run. Terrestrial television is far from dead folks.
