CustardTV News Update: Soaps make history, 'Curb' gets a trailer, The Voice to return.

Another BIG News Update...

*It has been announced that seven of the UK's biggest soap operas and continuing dramas will be uniting to help highlight climate change. Casualty, Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale, Holby City and Hollyoaks have each filmed scenes, or have references, to cover different aspects of climate change and, in a soap first, five of the soaps will also be referencing each other as each drama will also give a nod to another. Viewers will see some of Britain’s best-loved characters pop up in another soap as they discuss, or see the moments, that have been debated in another show in a bid to raise awareness of climate change.

The landmark event will see a Hollyoaks character pop up in Walford while villagers of the Chester soap will learn about events at Holby City. A social media video featuring two of Emmerdale’s residents will be shown to Coronation Street characters, whilst one of BBC One’s Doctors will appear on the cobbles of Coronation Street. Casualty will also be discussed in The Woolpack, and a social media clip from Weatherfield will be chatted about in The Queen Vic, as the soaps all come together for a special week. This special week will begin on the 1st November to coincide with the climate crisis being discussed by the world's leaders at the COP26 conference. 

*ITV have announced that John Bishop will be fronting a new six-part live Saturday night entertainment series. The John Bishop Show will combine stand-up sets from the host alongside interviews from some of the world's biggest stars. Additionally, Bishop will be checking the global pulse with a team of stand-ups from around the world. 


*HBO have released a full trailer for the upcoming eleventh series of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm. The series last aired in March 2020 with a prophetic season 10 finale that featured Larry’s “spite store” Latte Larry’s burning down, with excess Purell bottles serving as accelerants to the blaze.

*Robert Webb has had to withdraw from this year's Strictly Come Dancing due to ill health. Webb, who had open-heart surgery two years ago, has left the show after seeking urgent advice from his heart specialist. Webb's departure means that there will now be twelve couples competing on Saturday's live show.  

*ITV have announced that The Voice UK will return in 2022. There are no changes to the line-up with Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.Am, Olly Murs and Anne Marie sitting in the spinning chairs and Emma Willis hosting once again. 

*Sky have revealed that award-winning original series Upright will be returning for a second season. Tim Minchin will be returning as pianist Lucky alongside Milly Alcock as feisty teen Meg. In the second season the pair will swapping the desert for the steamy tropics of North Queensland as they hit the road, and the river, on their mission. 


*Filming has begun on the third series of ITV's gently comedic crime drama McDonald & Dodds starring Tala Gouveia and Jason Watkins. Guest cast members starring in the first film include Alan Davies, Holly Aird, Catherine Tyldesley and Dame Si├ón Phillips. The four-part new series will also see Claire Skinner join the cast as Chief Superintendent Ormond.

*The 2022 Dancing on Ice line-up has been completed with former Pussycat Doll Kimberley Wyatt and The Vamps' Connor Ball being announced as the final two participants. 

*E4 have revealed the first five celebrity pairings for the latest incarnation of legendary daytime show Coach Trip. Celebrity Ghost Trip will feature the likes of Dick and Dom, Kerry Katona and her daughter Lily travelling to some of the UK's spookiest locations. Everyone's favourite tour guide Brendan Sheerin will also be there, ensuring the celebs stay in line. 

*The All Stars Musical format will be returning to ITV for two special episodes. Hosted by John Barrowman, the specials will see six celebrities taking to the stage to perform a classic number from a musical. The first of these two specials will be airing over the Christmas period whilst a second is set to follow in 2022. Elaine Paige, Samantha Barks and Trevor Dion Nicholas will all return as judges and mentors.
