Agatha Christie’s Marple: The Murder at the Vicarage, ITV1

Who were the Top 10 star turns?

Siobhan Hayes as chippy Cockney maid Mary. Asked the name of the soup, she told the Colonel’s guests: “It’s odds and sods and bits and bobs.”

Angela Pleasence as gaga gossip Miss Hartnoll (played as if she was in The League Of Gentlemen). The vicar’s wife was tipsy at the jumble sale, we hear.

Jane Asher in the Joanna Lumley role (ie frightfully wordly and awfully classy)

Derek Jacobi as the bad-tempered Colonel Protheroe (we always love a crusty old chap with a faulty hearing aid)

Mark Gatiss as the anxious curate. “You can’t catch nerves. It’s a wretched affliction.”

Janet McAteer as the elegant wife of the colonel, mother of the budding Samantha Fox, lover of the racy artist and, as it transpired, the villain of the piece

Stephen Tompkinson as the permanently perplexed DI Slack

Julian Morris – just for being very cute

Miriam Margolyes as the troublesome Mrs Price-Ridley

Jason Flemyng as the smooth artist Lawrence Redding.
