What to say of you liked it

The jovial pair of semantic pranksters are back to once more exhibit their unique comic timing and improvisation.

What to say of you didn’t like it

Television’s own Sodom and Gomorrah return to disgorge more of their puerile, debauched observations on life.

What was good about it?

• The familiarity compounded over the previous series accords a sense of predictability ribald humour, despite the improvised nature of the show.

• Anthony, the slightly stroppy secretary. He was picked because Frank thought he looked “about 12”, but as he staggered to the stage he rebuked: “I’m 17 and had too many free beers.” After breaking the stool, Frank complimented him on the topics board he’d filled up: “That’s a good board. Respect.” But instead of graciously accepting the praise, the irked Anthony retorted: “Is that you trying to be cool, saying ‘respect’?”

• David: “It would be terrible for a squirrel to have a nut allergy.”

• Evidence they can still weave together an amusing comic routine. Frank: “When I used to have casual sex the video camera hadn’t been invented.” David: “The camera hadn’t been invented.” Frank: “I had a series of sketches. Charcoal”

• Frank on reality TV: “There’s something wrong about celebrities watching members of the public on TV.”

What was bad about it?

• When they wander off down a comedy cul-de-sac it takes a while for them to navigate out again such as David’s anecdote about giving a woman a foot massage.

• The song at the end of the show was, and always has been, a waste of the last five minutes.

• Frank’s tiresome Jewish jokes were reheated and served up to the undemanding consumer again. David: “Anthony isn’t wearing a hoody as it’s illegal. He’s wearing a half-hoody.” Frank: “Don’t get me started on the Jewish jokes again.”

• The trite Michael Jackson references. Hopefully, Jackson will agree to appear on Frank’s chat show and confront him with a incandescent glare like Matthew Kelly did.
