David Gyasi (Cloud Atlas, White Heat) will lead the series alongside Jo Joyner (EastEnders), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Robert Lonsdale (From Here To Eternity), Ewan Stewart (Titanic), Lorraine Ashbourne (Playing The Field, The Selfish Giant), Anna Skellern (Heading Out, Lip Service), Gary Beadle (EastEnders) and Lee Boardman (Da Vinci’s Demons).

Created by Tony Saint (Margaret Thatcher: Long Walk To Finchley; Strike Back) and directed by Farren Blackburn (Luther, The Fades, The Musketeers), The Interceptor is a new eight-part series about a top secret, state-of-the-art law enforcement team whose unswerving mission is to hunt down some of Britain’s most dangerous criminals.

It delves into the adventures of a dedicated surveillance team known as the UNIT. Keeping their quarries under ultra-tight surveillance, they take us into the real world inhabited by the criminals of today. And it’s easy to recognise because it’s the same world the rest of us inhabit.

David Gyasi leads the cast and plays Ash, whose dream of bringing down the biggest fish in the criminal underworld comes a step closer when he’s recruited to the UNIT – his knowledge of the street could be priceless, but with it comes an uncompromising way of doing things.

David Gysai says: “I am simply thrilled to be working with this creative team and to be a part of this exciting new project!”

Jo Joyner plays Lorna, Ash’s feisty wife and mother to their two children, whilst Robert Lonsdale plays Tommy, his irreverent and adrenalin loving partner and best mate.

Trevor Eve stars as ruthless criminal Roach, Ash’s ultimate target, whilst Anna Skellern stars as Kim, Lorraine Ashbourne as Valerie and Ewan Stewart as Cartwright, making up the UNIT team. Gary Beadle and Lee Boardman join the cast as criminals Docker and Xavier.

The Interceptor is an 8×60-minute series and is co-produced by BBC Drama Production and BBC Worldwide Productions for BBC One.

Filming starts next month in London and will transmit this Autumn on BBC One.
