Channel 4 replaces 40D

Channel 4 today announced that the first release of its new digital service All 4 will launch on Monday 30th March on PC, iPads and iPhones. At the same time, the new All 4 brand identity replaces the 4oD brand across all platforms.

The new intuitive design provides viewers with three experiences – On Demand, Now and On Soon:

  • On Demand is the place for catch up and archive programmes including Box Sets
  • Now is where viewers can watch live broadcasts and, over time, engage with other in-the-moment content experiences such as interactive formats, news clips, brand new Shorts and social media conversations
  • On Soon showcases upcoming previews and promos where viewers can set reminders and alerts – and watch exclusive episode premieres before their linear TV broadcast

All 4 makes all Channel 4 content fully mobile – whether live or on-demand – via 3G/4G streaming and catch up content available for download.

From launch All 4 will host a special selection of Channel 4 Premieres in advance of their linear TV debut including new season Made In Chelsea; Series Rewinds including hit US drama Nashville; and for the first time ever on-demand, critically acclaimed comedy The Inbetweeners Movie 1.

There will also be a brand new line up of Original Shorts series available across all areas of All 4 including: Rich Kids Go Shopping which follows some of Britain’s wealthy young people as they go on extreme shopping sprees; Total Recastwith film director Simon Birch as he travels the country to re-make classic movies in his own unique style; a new series of Body Mods exploring body modifications; Drones In Forbidden Zones which scale dangerous and difficult to access sites in the UK; and Drinking With 77 year old drinks connoisseur Ross Harvey as he explores different drinking cultures. *Further details below

To enable a personal viewing experience and build the foundation for an exclusive viewer rewards hub, viewers will be required to register –for free – to watch all long-form content on All 4. Over11 million viewers are already registered with Channel 4 – including 1 in 2 of all 16-34 year olds in the UK. Channel 4’s Viewer Promise fronted by comedian Alan Carr underpins its data strategy to ensure absolute transparency with viewers around its use of data.

Keith Underwood, Director of Strategy and Technology said: “All 4 builds on a heritage of pioneering digital innovation at Channel 4. Back in 2006, Channel 4 became the first broadcaster in the world to offer long-form TV content on-demand with the launch of our 4oD service. Now, the replacement of 4oD with All 4 embodies our strategy of providing a wider range of increasingly personalised digital services to registered users.

“This launch is the first release in a major transformation programme which will serve to consolidate our digital services and transform our relationship with viewers.”

Richard Davidson-Houston, Head of All 4 and Digital Content commented: “All 4 is a new kind of Channel with an unrivalled content offering. Where else can you find, whenever you want – for free –classic Box Sets, catch up TV, live TV channels, original Short programmes, TV premieres and bonus content for your favourite shows? Nowhere else. All 4 is unique. We’re beginning to redefine the category.”

The All 4 service will be extended to other digital platforms including Android across 2015.
