Everybody Loves Lil’ Chris, Channel 4

Did we like it?

Some bits were a little cheap and crude, but the show has potential.

What was good about it?

• Chris’ natural talent as an aspiring talk show host with guests Robyn, Shayne Ward, The Hoosiers and Keith Lemon. He showed no sign of nerves, and got away with cheeky questioning thanks to his smile and genial personality. There was a little of the Little Ant and Little Dec about it – and that’s a good thing.

• It’s something different and Channel 4 could use this format to attract some top music acts.

• Chris wearing a cow outfit.

• The People versus Little Chris – a section where Chris made a mockery out of Londoners.

• His brilliant interview with Keith Lemon – for once Leigh Francis was on form with his salesperson of the year 1993 character.

• Keith Lemon: ‘I had a relationship with both [Mel B and Mel C] in alphabetical order’.

• The question: ‘Who would make your ideal Mrs Lemon?’ in the Keith Lemon interview.

• Keith Lemon reminding viewers that you have to be over 16 to have sex.

• The live performance by Plain White Ts outside Chris’s mega-trailer.

• The comedy items – Big Chris the roadie hanging out with the birds (a group of genteel old ladies) and the rant against small dogs – weren’t great but weren’t rubbish.

What was bad about it?

• A poor attempt to create an ‘indie’.

• The interview with the yucky Hoosiers got a bit tedious when in every single scene Chris changed his outfit to something outrageously stupid.

• Lil’ Chris’ extremely annoying laugh.

• Chris trying to use words like ‘Hey’, ‘Hardcore’, ‘Mental’ and ‘Lads’ in an attempt to relate to the young viewers. It just makes him sound strange.
