The BBC have announced they’ve greenlit a third series of popular daytime crime drama Father Brown.

The second series, which has just concluded a two-week run on BBC One, stars Mark Williams as the eponymous crime-solving Roman Catholic priest. In its first week on air, the show gained an average audience of 1.9m and 24.7 per cent share. The new series of 15×45-minute episodes will start shooting in and around the Cotswolds later this year.

Executive producer Will Trotter says: “Father Brown is a successful co-production between BBC Worldwide and BBC Drama Production which has delivered compulsive viewing for BBC One Daytime. The success of this second series has proved that viewers have really taken Mark Williams as Father Brown to their hearts. We are delighted that we can continue to bring such a well-loved character to life.”

Damian Kavanagh, Controller BBC Daytime adds: “I’m extremely proud that Father Brown has become an appointment to view programme on BBC One afternoons. The production team and Mark Williams have done a fantastic job bringing Father Brown to life and I’m delighted that our viewers share my enthusiasm for the series.”
