The BBC have released the trailer for Jed Mercurio’s tense six-parter Bodyguard starring Richard Madden and Keely Hawes.

Set in and around the corridors of power, Bodyguard tells the fictional story of David Budd (Richard Madden – Game of Thrones), a heroic but volatile war veteran now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP) of London’s Metropolitan Police Service.

When he is assigned to protect the ambitious and powerful Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes – Line of Duty, The Durrells), Budd finds himself torn between his duty and his beliefs. Responsible for her safety, could he become her biggest threat?

It has also been confirmed that the first episode will air on at 9.00pm on Sunday 26th August with Episode 2 following on Bank Holiday Monday 27th August. It will then revert back to Sundays.

The six-parter is the start of a strong drama slate the BBC will be rolling out across the autumn.

Bodyguard starts Sunday 26th August at 9.00pm  on BBC One.
