ITV have announced the other principal cast members who will join Sheridan Smith in Jeff Pope’s three-part drama series based on the life of the legendary Cilla Black.

Aneurin Barnard, best known for his roles in The White Queen and Moonfleet, will star opposite Smith as Cilla’s husband Bobby Willis. The drama will focus on Cilla’s relationship with Bobby as well as her friendship with Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.

It’s through this relationship with Ringo that Cilla is introduced to The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein, who will be played in the series by The Politician’s Husband’s Ed Stoppard.

Cilla’s father John White will be played by Early Doors’ John Henshaw whilst her mother Priscilla will be portrayed by Waterloo Road’s Melanie Hill.

Cilla is set to start filming this month and will take in some of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks.
