Jack Whitehall’s Backchat to return to BBC3

BBC3 has announced that Jack Whitehall’s comedy chat show Backchat will return for two specials later in the year.

Along with his father Michael, Whitehall will be hosting two 45 minute specials to coincide with the start of 2014 World Cup and Father’s Day.

The announcement was part of a raft of new entertainment commissions announced by outgoing head of BBC3 Zai Bennett.

Other returning programmes include political comedy The Revolution Will Be Televised and surreal dating show Sexy Beasts which is getting a full series following a successful pilot run earlier in the year.

In addition Nick Helm, star of recent BBC3 sitcom Uncle, will present a new variety series. Entitled Nick Helm’s Heavy Entertainment the programme will be a fast paced mix of stand-up, sketches and audience interaction.

Of the commissions Bennett said, “BBC Three is committed to bringing the best in entertainment to its audiences so I’m delighted to announce this raft of exciting new and returning shows. BBC Three discovered the brilliant Nick Helm and Heavy Entertainment promises to be just as quirky and special as Uncle. Murder In Successville takes murder mystery to a whole new level and I can’t wait to see what happens in this weird and wonderful place. Backchat was a big hit for the channel last year so I’m delighted that Jack and Michael are returning with two specials and Sexy Beasts was a real talking point when the pilot aired so I have high hopes for the series. And what can I say about Heydon and Jolyon other than look out, they’re back!”
