It has been confirmed that Michelle Gomez will return to her role of Missy for the opening episode of the ninth series of Doctor Who.

Gomez joined Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman for the two part episode The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar. The episode is written by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffatt and is directed by Hettie Macdonald.

Speaking of the news, Gomez said, “things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I’m delighted to be putting my lippie back on. I’m positively dying to see The Doctor again!”

Moffatt added, “everybody hide – Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.”

The episode will also see Jemma Redgrave return to reprise her role of Kate Stewart whilst additional cast members include Kelly Hunter, Clare Higgins and Jaye Griffiths.
