The Christmas ratings have been revealed with the return Gavin & Stacey smashing ratings records.
By far the most-watched show was Gavin & Stacey, which had a seven-day audience of 17.92m across all devices. The ‘live’ number during transmission was 6.55m, so the total timeshift of 11.37m is a new record for British television.
Elsewhere dependable festive favourites bought in more expected ratings.
2) Call the Midwife 8.69m
3) Strictly 7.68m
4) Corrie (27 Dec) 7.38m
5) The Queen (BBC1 only) 7.30m
6) EastEnders (25 Dec) 7.21m
7) Corrie (23 Dec) 7.01m
8) Corrie (25 Dec) 6.88m
9) M McIntyre 6.85m
10) Corrie (26 Dec) 6.77m
A little below the top ten, there was success for Episode 1 of The Trial of Christine Keeler (6.67m), and Mrs Brown’s Boys (6.65m). Paddington 2 consolidated to a good 6.39m on Boxing Day, while Worzel Gummidge did well with its two episodes (6.33m and 5.12m respectively).
With numbers like that, I don’t think we have to worry about whether Gavin & Stacey will be back, it’s a certainty.
