Did we like it?

It seemed like an opportunity missed – an unsatisfactory medley of embarrassment and flattery, mixing Before They Were Famous with those bits in chat shows when celebrities are “shocked” that an old clip of them in action is going to be shown

What was good about it?

• Presenter Paddy McGuinness is an amiable bloke, but didn’t really add to much to the programme.

• Bruce Forsyth reacting with horror and embarrassment to an item on a 1963 edition of Westward Diary when he was promoting his summer season and had a much higher voice. And Bruce reacting with joy when shown rediscovered clips of Sunday Night at the London Palladium and Tarby’s Back.

• The contrast between Michael Parkinson’s war reports in the Middle East and his jokey And Finally… items for Granada’s Scene At 6.30.

• Chris Tarrant getting a mullering off a female mud wrestler.

• We’re pleased that old TV gems (and a fair amount of rubbish) have been found, but weren’t happy that the clips we got to see were so brief they needn’t have bothered.

• John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett going mad on the Old Grey Whistle Test

• Laughing at the Leo Sayerish hairstyle sported by Lousy Louie Walsh when he was 28

What was bad about it?

• Chris Tarrant being lauded for making silly And Finally… items for ATV Today.

• Long-buried memories of Saturday morning show Play Guitar With Ulf Goran were reawakened

• Cringing at Katie Melua’s screeched Without You on Mad 4 It.
