Did we like it?
Billie Piper looks ravishing as high-class hooker Belle but, without much a story to cling to, this is a pointless, soft-focus dramatisation of the life of the London prostitute whose blog became a best-selling book.
What was good about it?
• Belle’s underwear. Very tasteful.
• Sexy client Daniel. His need to use the services of a prostitute never became clear, which was annoying, but he did look good when he eventually got round to getting his money’s worth.
• One of our favourite actresses, Cherie Lunghi, as Stephanie, Belle’s ruthless pimp.
• The cosmopolitan scenes and cool music.
What was bad about it?
• The bits when Belle spoke to the camera (eg “I charge by the hour and I charge a lot.”)
• The glamourisation of prostitution as if it’s a career choice rather than an occupation fuelled by desperation.
• The client who wanted to be ridden like a horse – and talk about the size of horse’s dicks – which came across as a cliché rather than a believable episode in Belle’s bonk-filled life.
• It’s more like a ghastly adult channel freeview slot than a proper TV drama.
• The weak script, especially the lack of humour.
