Sherlock returns to huge audience.

Sherlock has returned to record breaking ratings according to the latest overnight figures. The figures show that the opening episode of the third series was seen by a massive 9.2m viewers (33.8% share), its most watched episode yet. Also looking provisionally it is set to become the most watched programme across the festive period.

The Empty Hearse saw Sherlock return from the dead and reunite with a reluctant John Watson. We loved the episode aside from being no closer to actually finding out how Sherlock faked his deadly fall but some fans have been quick to tweet about the way the episode poked fun at the fans.

The series continues Sunday at 8.30pm on BBC ONE
