Following its final run on BBC One, the BAFTA-nominated and critically acclaimed courtroom drama Silk (Series 3) is now available to own on BBC DVD.
Silk Series 3 on DVD sees feelings run high when a murder trial close to home sends shockwaves through Shoe Lane Chambers.
Before the final episode recently aired on TV writer Peter Moffat announced that he won’t be writing anymore episodes and that the series has reached ‘it’s natural end’. Lead actress Maxine Peake added,“I’ve had a fantastic three years playing Martha Costello. Peter Moffat has created a role I’m so proud to have played”.
Over the course of the six-episodes that made up the third series viewers followed the heartbreaking story of Clerk Billy Lamb’s battle with Prostate Cancer. The storyline saw his character undergo hormone treatment. At a recent press event for the BBC, Neil Stuke, who now works for Prostate Cancer UK revealed that he had yet to have himself checked out. “We made a promise on live television with Matthew Wright of the Wright Stuff that we’d go and get checked out together, so I’m waiting for him really. Because Billy is so macho, I think Peter (writer Peter Moffat) liked the idea of him having his manliness taken away. The operation he undergoes is basically modern day castration and they put hormones into you that make you more feminine. He opens up to Martha but he keeps everything very close to his chest.”
The six-part series also featured Martha Costello (Maxine Peake) and Clive Reader (Rupert-Penry Jones) finally succumb to their feelings and enter to a difficult relationship which as you’d expect doesn’t run smoothly. What makes Silk stand out from other dramas in the genre is Peter Moffat’s attention to detail. For three series it has provided viewers with an insight into the legal world like we’ve never seen it before. Though the DVD for the final series contains no extras, the six episodes are superb and deserve to be re-watched over and over.
Silk Series 1-3 box set is also available giving fans the opportunity to relive trials and tribulations of Shoe Lane Chambers, from start to finish.
