Sue Johnston joins Downton Abbey

ITV have announced that Sue Johnston will play a guest role in the fifth series of the award-winning Downton Abbey.

Johnston is set to play Denker, the Lady’s Maid to Maggie Smith’s Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham.

Most famous for her roles in The Royle Family and Coronation Street; Johnston is no stranger to costume drama having previously appeared in the 2008 adaptation of Little Dorrit on BBC One.

Johnston joins other guest actors for Downton Abbey Series Five including Richard E Grant, Anna Chancellor and Rade Sherbedgia. Other guest actors for the new series of Downton Abbey include Dame Harriet Walter and Peter Egan who will be reprising their roles as Lady Shackleton and Lord Flintshire respectively.

Downton Abbey returns this autumn with a fifth series and again at Christmas 2014 with a feature length episode.
