The Musketeers wins overnights battle.

The Musketeers got off to an impressive start looking at the overnight ratings.

The first of ten episodes launched on BBC One last night (Sunday 19 January) with a peak audience of 7.7 million and an average of 7.4 million and 28.9 % share of the audience winning the 9.00pm slot.

Kate Harwood, BBC Head of Drama Production England says:“We are delighted with the response to the first episode of Musketeers – it is the start of a thrilling and entertaining journey full of action, adventure and some wonderful guest characters.”

The launch episode performed above both BBC One and ITV’s 2013 slot average (BBC One – 4.3M/17.4% share and ITV – 6.5M/26.4% share).

ITV’s Mr. Selfridge, which returned for a second series at 9pm entertained 5.27m.

The Musketeers returns Sunday, 9.00pm on BBC One.
