8.00pm The X-Factor ITV – The live shows begin as the final twelve acts compete for public votes during ‘Express Yourself’ week.

9.30pm Boy George’s 1970s: Save Me from Suburbia BBC2 – As part of the ‘My Generation’ series the Culture Club frontman looks at the decade that was the beginning of his musical, social and sexual coming-of-age.


8.00pm Wild West: America’s Great Frontier BBC2 – New wildlife documentary series which explores the history and geography of America’s deserts, canyons and wilderness. The first programme examines the agricultural traditions of the Hopi Native American tribe in northeastern Arizona, as well as exploring the strategies used by a variety of wildlife, including mustangs, coyotes and desert tortoises, to survive in these demanding environments.

9.00pm Sir Chris Hoy: 200mph at Le Mans BBC2 – This documentary follows the Olympic cyclist as he attempts to retrain as a racing driver in order to pursue his lifelong dream of enterting the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race.

9.00pm Reggie Yates: Life and Death in Chicago BBC1 – The broadcaster travels to Chicago to discover why so many of the city’s shooting victims are young African-American men. However, after attending the funeral of a young black victim, he realises the even bigger problem is that the majority of killings are perpetrated by African-Americans living in the city’s poorest neighbourhoods.

9.00pm The Victorian Slum BBC2 – Michael Mosley presents this social experiment series which sees a group of people experiencing the tough living and working conditions of the Victorian poor after moving into a restored Victorian tenement in the heart of London’s East End.

9.00pm Derren Brown: Miracle Channel 4 The mentalist explores the world of evangelical faith healing; stunts include apparently curing a woman’s rheumatoid arthritis and restoring the 20:20 vison of a glasses wearing member of the audience at the Palace Theatre in London’s West End.

10.10pm Divorce Sky Atlantic- Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Hayden Church star in Sharon Horgan’s latest black comedy as a couple whose marriage runs into unreconcilable differences.


Notable Continuing Series: The Great British Bake Off, 8.00pm, BBC1

9.00pm The Missing BBC1 – Tcheky Karyo returns as Detective Julien Baptiste in the second series of Jack and Harry Williams’s mystery thriller. This time the story moves to Eckhausen in Germany where a girl is found stumbling through streets and is identified as Alice Webster, who disappeared eleven years earlier. Whilst her family are happy to have her back, the police are convinced that Alice also holds information about the whereabouts of a second girl, Sophie Giroux whose case was first investigated by Julien back in 2003. Starring alongside Karyo are David Morrissey, Keeley Hawes, Roger Allam and Laura Fraser.

9.00pm Aberfan: The Young Wive’s Club ITV – On October 21, 1966, thousands of tonnes of mud, rock and coal waste crashed down the side of Mynydd Merthyr and into the village of Aberfan, South Wales. Homes were destroyed, and Pantgal Junior School was crushed under the debris, adding 116 children to the 28 adults who died that day. Making use of archive footage and first-hand testimonies, this film details how the women of the community developed a decades-long bond that helped them deal with their grief.
