ITV have confirmed that Unforgotten will return for a second series.

Chris Lang’s drama, which ended tonight focused on a ‘cold’ murder case of 39 years ago, when the bones of a young man were found beneath the footings of a demolished house.

The series saw Nicola Walker’s DCI Cassie Stuart attempt to solve the case with help from Sanjeev Bhaskar’s DS Sunny Khan. The series also starred Bernard Hill, Trevor Eve, Ruth Sheen and Tom Courtenay as the four potential suspects whose lives were changed forever by the investigation.

Chris Lang said of the news, “I am immensely excited to be writing a second series of Unforgotten and relish the challenge of introducing a brand new story, where long buried secrets will once again be slowly brought to light.”

ITV’s head of drama Steve November added, “we are pleased with the audience response to Unforgotten and I am delighted to announce that it will be returning for a second series with a brand new story from the writer Chris Lang and Mainstreet Pictures, a winning formula who have kept ITV drama viewers gripped throughout the first series.”

Cast and Filming Dates will be announced at a later date.
