The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that US network Fox is to remake ITV drama series Broadchurch as a mini series. The series, which gained a massive following during its broadcast in the spring to is to be remade by the US network with original series creator Chris Chibnall writing at least the opening episode. The article mentions “Series creator Chris Chibnall (Dr. Who, Camelot) will executive produce the new incarnation, with production beginning in January for a debut during the 2014-15 season. Set in an American town, Broadchurch (working title) follows the tragic and mysterious death of a young boy found dead on an idyllic beach surrounded by rocks and a jutting cliff-face from where he may have fallen. Although the cause of his death remains unsolved, the picturesque seaside town where the tragedy occurred is at the heart of a major police investigation and a nationwide media frenzy. “Broadchurch is the kind of storytelling that grabs your attention and keeps you riveted with every minute — which is exactly what we look for in an event series,” Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said. “We love the layered characters, we’ve seen how well-received it’s been in the U.K., and we’re lucky to be able to bring a new version of this mystery to the U.S. audience.”
The original UK drama will make its debut on American screens on August 7th on BBCAMERICA.
