ITV today announced the commission of a new six-part thirty-minute studio sitcom entitled Kate and Kolo.

The title characters will be played Brenda Blethyn and Jimmy Akingbola whilst the series is written by Guy Jenkin and Andy Hamilton.

The sitcom centres around Kae; a working-class woman who runs an old-fashioned cafe in a neglected seaside town who develops a strong, if sometimes volatile friendship with asylum-seeking African doctor Kolo.

Kate and Kolo is set to air on ITV in 2020.
